GME Admission Schedule 2010-2011






Course Offered

One year Pre-Sea Training course (Residential) in Marine Engineering for Graduate, Mechanical Engineer / Naval Architects. Course commences – 1st September

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Graduate Mechanical Engineering / Naval Architects with min. 50% marks in aggregate from AICTE approved Institute.
  2. Min.50% marks in English subject in X th or XII th std.
  3. aximum age 28 Yrs. As on course commencement date.
  4. Medical fitness : - Candidate should be medically fit with eyesight at least 6/12 in each eye without visual aids & no color blindness

Training

The Training syllabus is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping,Govt.of India. The Training consistes of :
  • Class room lectures
  • Practical training in various Work Shops and Laboratoris.
  • Afloat training on Ships/ Ship in Campus


Approval

The Course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. Of India, Mumbai vide letter no. 3-TR(6)/2005-III dated 18.09.2009.

Career Prospectus

On completion of training assured job from BSM on successful completion of course. The GME entry students are eligible to join Ships of Indian/ Foreign Merchant Navy as Junior Engineers, after obtaining exemption from Class IV, part A from MMD, Govt.Of India, and a CDC.

Junior Engineer rises to become a Chief Engineer normally within 5 to 6 years, subject to passing furhter examinations conducted by Mercantile Marine Dept.,Govt. of India.

Auxiliary Courses

As per the International regulations, it is mandatory for candidates to undergo special training in following courses, before joining the ship.

  1. Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (FPFF)
  2. Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
  3. Elementary First Aid (EFA)
  4. Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities. (PSST)


The Institute will arrange for these courses for its students at a suitable training centre, at additional cost.

Special Training:

  • Computer Courses
  • Welding Courses
  • Engine room Simulator Course
  • Communication Skills & Personality Development


Above courses are not mandatory as per DGS regulations. However, this Institute provides special training in above courses to prepare them better, for employment in shipping companies.

Above courses are conducted at no additional cost to the students.

Salary

The salaries of Jr. Eng. vary from company to company. However, approx starting salary is Rs. 40,000/- pm for Indian companies and US$ 700-900 in Foreign Companies. A Chief Engineer draws a salary of over Rs.4, 00,000 /-PM
